From May 13-17, 2019, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) provided radiation safety training in Cote D’Ivoire. This activity was in preparation to begin a radioactive sources inventory project in the country. The Radiation Protection, Nuclear Safety and Security Authority also received training on the use of the Advanced Regulatory Information System (ARIS), a software package to facilitate the inventory project. On May 10, 2019, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) visited Kampala, Uganda. Eric Stahl of USNRC and John Kinneman of AdSTM met with senior officials from the Atomic Energy Council (AEC) of Uganda to discuss the national inventory of radiation sources that was completed in 2018 with support from the RSRP, current activities of the AEC, and ongoing and future nuclear safety engagements. On April 5 and 6, 2019, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) visited Bangui, Central African Republic (CAR). John Kinneman of AdSTM met with senior officials from the Ministry of Mines and Geology and the National Radiation Protection Agency (ANR) to discuss ongoing nuclear safety engagement. The USNRC and CAR officials agreed on plans for a pilot source inventory project in the Bangui region, which will begin in late April 2019. In addition, the ANR and the USNRC discussed future regulatory development and inspection-related support.
