Workshop with the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of Ghana (NRA) on Technical Licensing Reviews for Cyclotron Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Practices and Inspection of Cyclotron Operations

Published on May 9, 2025

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) delivered a workshop on licensing and inspection of PET facilities to the NRA. This training was conducted on May 5-9, 2025, and provided guidance on the technical review of a Radiation Safety Plan and Emergency Response Plan submission by a licensee applicant. The RSRP subject matter expert assisted the NRA staff in reviewing the application for the issuance of an operational license for the possession and safe use of an 18 MeV cyclotron. The workshop consisted of detailed discussions and expert consultations with NRA on the contents of the license application, as well as a two-day on-site inspection at the cyclotron facility.
