Provide regulatory staff with technical, security and safety information, typical regulatory requirements for evaluating industrial radiography operations. Usually this 5-day course focuses on either onsite inspection. and inspection techniques or on the licensing process.
Both the workshop on the Inspection and the workshop on the Licensing of the Safety and Security of Industrial Radiography Operations include classroom presentations on the devices and radioactive sources used in industrial radiography, the objectives and operations of industrial radiographers, the training and qualification of individuals who conduct industrial radiography (the radiographers), the transportation and security of the radioactive sources used in industrial radiography, the safety procedures to protect the radiographers and members of the public during radiographic operations and the proper use of radiation detection devices and instrumentation. The Inspection version presents the organization and implementation of inspection procedures and includes setting up a mock inspection under the supervision of the instructor or the instructor observing an inspection of an operating radiography organization by the regulatory staff. In either case, the instructor observes and provides feedback, guidance and mentoring to the regulatory staff. The licensing version covers the organization and implementation of the licensing process and includes selecting an application under review by the regulatory staff. The staff conducts the review, the instructor observes and provides feedback, guidance and mentoring.
A combined workshop to cover both inspection and licensing activities can be provided, but each subject will be covered in less detail.
While the workshop is focused on improving the skills of the regulatory staff, some RSRP partners invite the staff of operating radiographers to attend, particularly when the inspection version is presented.
