Consultancy to Singapore on Licensing and Inspection of Industrial Radiography Operations

June 22nd, 2019 —

From June 17-21, 2019, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) conducted a consultancy meeting with the Radiation Protection and Nuclear Science Department of the National Environment Agency (NEA) in Singapore. Rick Muñoz provided information and guidance to the NEA and authorized industrial radiography users with the objective of strengthening regulatory oversight of industrial radiographic operations. In addition to the information exchange, a formal inspection at a licensed industrial radiography facility was observed by the RSRP representative. The consultation and inspection observation led to several suggestions and recommendations to improve and further develop the NEA’s regulatory program related to industrial radiography regulations, licensing reviews, and inspection procedures.
