Nuclear Gauges – Regulatory Inspection and Licensing

Purpose: 

To provide the regulatory staff with a knowledge of the construction of and safety aspects of gauges containing radioactive material sufficient to license and inspect the use of these gauges.

Scope: 

In a workshop adjusted to the needs and desires of the regulatory body, the instructor provides information on the devices and radioactive sources used in a variety of measurement devices and techniques. Safety features, radiation exposure control, a brief review of shielding, access control, proper storage, and safe transportation are covered. Licensing and inspection approaches are discussed. A visit to appropriate facilities may be included with the instructor providing feedback on inspection activities by the regulatory staff.
