Workshop on Physical Protection of Nuclear Materials and Installations in Kuwait City

Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) program contributed to the Workshop on Physical Protection of Nuclear Materials and Installations held in Kuwait City, Kuwait, March 24-28, 2013. The workshop was focused on an introductory overview of security of radioactive sources issues. Darice Bailey of AdSTM supported the workshop by presenting seven formal lectures covering each of the Increased Control elements: Nuclear Materials and Radioactive Sources Security Requirements, Control Access, Monitor, Detect, Assess, and Respond, Transportation Security, Document Retention, Information Protection, and Additional Regulatory Improvements. 10 CFR 37 was published days before the workshop was scheduled to begin, therefore the elements of the new rule were presented as they related to the increased controls. The workshop was organized by the Arab Atomic Energy Agency and was co-sponsored by the Arab Atomic Energy Agency, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the State of Kuwait Ministry of Electricity and Water, and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Participants represented Egypt, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, Sudan, Mauritania and Libya.
