Workshop with the Radiation Safety and Nuclear Security Authority of Mauritius: "Shielding Calculations in Diagnostic Radiology and PET-CT”

Published on March 22, 2025

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) delivered a workshop on shielding calculations for the different types of x-ray imaging modalities and Positron Emission Tomography–Computed Tomography (PET-CT) facilities to the Mauritius Radiation Safety and Nuclear Security Authority (RSNSA). The weeklong workshop, from March 17-21, 2025, included detailed discussions and hands-on implementation of the basic principles and the specific methodology offered by National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) Report No. 147 (“x ray imaging”), NCRP report No.177 (dental x-ray facilities), and The American Association of Physicist in Medicine Task Group Report 108 (PET-CT facilities).

The goal of the workshop was to assist RSNSA with their regulatory oversight of these types of facilities in the county. The workshop included the development of practical examples and calculation tools where the participants demonstrated the application of newly acquired knowledge.
