RSRP visited the National Radiation Safety Agency (NRSA) of the Republic of Tajikistan in Dushanbe from March 26-29, 2017. In collaboration with NRSA, the objective of the visit was to develop the RSRP Action Plan for 2017-2018. Current issues include the update of the legal basis in radiation safety, the adaptation of NRSA structure to current challenges, and the decision to establish a regional NRSA office in the northern region of the country to increase inspection quality and reduce the number of long distance travel for NRSA staff.
The meeting discussed support provided by US government agencies to Tajikistan, and in particular the RSRP support activities for the NRSA. Very much appreciated was the US NRC/RSRP sponsored construction of the conference building completed and inaugurated in November, 2014 with participation of Kokhir Rasulzoda, Tajikistan Prime Minister and Jack Ramsey of US NRC. After recent refurbishment this building obtained the status of a regional conference center for radiation safety. Further plans for NRSA facility is to serve as a training area for customs officers and other Tajik agency’s staff involved in prevention of illicit trafficking.
The meeting was attended by recently appointed head of the NRSA, Mr. Ilkhom Mirsaidov, Jabor Salomov and NRSA staff experts, and Peter Kelm, an RSRP FSU project manager of AdSTM.
