The 4th regional meeting of the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) assistance program on strengthening regulatory control over radiation sources took place from Wednesday June 13, 2012 through Friday June 15, 2012 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, with participants from Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan and representatives of USNRC and contributors from the Czech Republic and Lithuania.
The regional meeting addressed all aspects of the USNRC assistance program, mainly to exchange experience and lessons learned within the program and discussed future plans. The meeting included presentations and panel discussions on source inventorization, and safe and secure storage and disposal of radiation sources, improvements and international harmonization of national legal system for radiation protection, exchange of practical experience in inspection procedures and enforcement, and support for technical improvements in the regulatory activities over radiation sources. Special session addressed introduction of the Advanced Regulatory Information System, Version 1.5 and steps required for its implementation in 2012.
