From May 25-29, 2026, the National Regulatory Authority for Radiological Protection of Uruguay (ARNR) hosted a five-day workshop in Montevideo focused on the Advanced Regulatory Information System (xARIS), organized under the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership. The workshop was conducted by Advanced Systems Technology and Management, Inc. expert Grigol Basilia. The workshop provided instruction on the installation and use of xARIS to support ARNR in strengthening its capabilities to effectively manage regulatory information related to radiation sources and their associated activities.
The primary outcome of the workshop was the upgrade from ARIS 2.5 to the new and improved xARIS platform. The upgraded platform provides enhanced capabilities and more efficient tracking of radiation sources in Uruguay. In addition to the upgraded software, ARNR staff received training on the migration of their existing regulatory database to the new software. Through practical hands-on sessions, ARNR staff learned the xARIS core functions and modules, including the management of radiation sources, authorization, inspection, occupational exposure, and radiation events. Training also covered reporting, statistics, system customization, user access management and backup procedures.
The training was tailored to Uruguay’s national regulatory framework and operational requirements, allowing participants to apply the platform directly to their national context. By the end of the workshop, ARNR staff had developed the practical knowledge required to operate, administer, and maintain xARIS independently, supporting more efficient and sustainable management of regulatory information.
