Virtual Workshop on "Design and Shielding Calculation for Linear Accelerators" for Ghana

The US NRC Radiation Source Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) delivered a virtual workshop on "Design and Shielding Calculation for Linear Accelerators". The workshop was conducted in two sessions of approximately 4 hours each, on July 5 and 8, 2021. The seminar provided an overview of basic concepts such as workload, occupancy and use factors, HVL (Half Value Layer) & TVL (Tenth Value Layer), primary and secondary barriers, neutron dose and the application of the Time Average Dose Rate and Instant Dose Rates.

RSRP Delivers Virtual Workshop on Methods for Inventory of Sources for Burundi

The US NRC Radiation Source Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) delivered the workshop “Methods for Inventory of Sources of Ionizing Radiation (SIR)” for the University of Burundi, on June 14-18, 2021. The seminar provided an overview of the importance of building the country SIRs registry and the appropriate approach to obtain information and register it. Estimation methods of sources parameters were discussed, inspections checklists were prepared, and an Overview of the software ARIS was presented.

RSRP Conducts Virtual Meeting with The Chadian Agency for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety

On June 8, 2021, the US NRC Radiation Source Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) Program conducted a virtual meeting with the Chadian Agency for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety (ATRSN) to discuss ATRSN plans and identify areas for future collaboration. ATRSN staff, the US NRC, and AdSTM representatives attended the meeting. The meeting resulted in important discussions on ATRSN´s vision for future bilateral collaboration, which includes staff training and development of requirements for specific practices.

Virtual Seminar on Introduction to Well Logging for African and Former Soviet Union Countries

The US NRC Radiation Source Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) delivered a 1.5-hour virtual training seminar on “Introduction to Well Logging” for regulatory staff from West African countries on May 25, 2021, and for East African/FSU countries on May 28, 2021. The seminar focused on the principles of well logging, the different techniques used for hydrocarbon prospection and radiation safety measures when using radioactive sources to measure porosity and density. Fifteen (15) regulatory staff from Chad, Cote D’Ivoire, The Republic of Congo and Senegal attended on the first date.

Virtual Seminar on "Introduction to Radiation Physics and Radiation Protection Principles" for ANNuR Countries

On May 27, 2021, the US NRC Radiation Source Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) delivered a virtual training seminar titled, “Introduction to Radiation Physics and Radiation Protection Principles” for Arab Network of Nuclear Regulators (ANNuR) member countries. During this two-hour seminar, RSRP trainers covered the following topics: basic Radiation Physics concepts, the biological effects of radiation, considerations for developing regulatory limits, and basic radiation safety practices for protecting workers/public (external radiation safety controls and basic contamination controls).

RSRP Delivers Virtual Seminar on Linear Accelerator Inspections for West African Countries

The US NRC Radiation Source Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) delivered a 3-hour virtual training seminar on “Linear Accelerator Inspections” for regulatory staff from West African countries on April 9, 2021. The seminar focused on performance-based inspections and provided an overview of how Linear Accelerator inspections are conducted at the USA based on the clinical workflow. RSRP instructors also presented a review of checklists and inspections documentation. Twenty (20) regulatory staff from Cote D’Ivoire, Mauritania and Senegal attended the training.

Virtual Seminar on Linear Accelerators Inspections for Latin America Countries

The US NRC Radiation Source Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) delivered a virtual training seminar on “Linear Accelerators Inspections” for regulatory staff from Latin America countries. The virtual seminar was conducted in a 2 hours session on February 25-26, 2021. The seminar focused on Performance Based Inspections and provided an overview of how Linear Accelerator inspections are conducted at the USA, based on the clinical workflow. A review of checklists and inspections documentation was also presented.
