From May 7, to May 11, 2018, a consultation under the RSRP was conducted at the Peruvian National Institute of Energy (IPEN) in Lima, Peru for the National Technical Office Authority (OTAN). Rick Muñoz provided information and guidance to the Peruvian Regulatory Authority (RA) with the objective of strengthening their regulation of Construction, Licensing and Inspection of Medical Cyclotrons, Positron Emission (PET) Tomography and PET Nuclear Material Radiopharmaceutical Production and Distribution.
From March 26 to March 30, 2018, a consultation under the RSRP was conducted at the Bolivian Institute of Nuclear Technology (IBTEN) La Paz, Bolivia. Rick Muñoz provided information and guidance to the Bolivian Regulatory Authority (RA) with the objective of strengthening their regulation of Construction, Licensing and Inspection of Medical Cyclotrons, Positron Emission (PET) Tomography and PET Nuclear Material Radiopharmaceutical Production and Distribution.
From March 19-23, 2018, RSRP conducted a one-week workshop on Shielding Calculation in Industrial Radiological Applications in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The recipient was the National Energy Commission (CNE) as the country Regulatory Authority. This is part of the undergoing collaboration CNE-RSRP aiming to strengthen Radiation Protection in the country.
RSRP visited the Nuclear & Radiation Safety Agency (NRSA) of the Republic of Tajikistan, in Dushanbe, February 19 through 21, 2018, holding meetings with senior NRSA management to discuss the next steps of cooperation with the Agency.
RSRP conducted a one-week workshop on Design and Shielding Calculation in Medical Radiological Facilities in La Paz, Bolivia, from March 5-9, 2018. This is part of the ongoing collaboration between IBTEN and RSRP aiming to strengthen Radiation Protection in the country. The workshop is designed to take into account the current medical technologies in the country and new equipment being introduced.
RSRP visited the Republic of Congo in the capital, Brazzaville, from March 5-7, 2018. An existing “nuclear” law provides legal authority over import and export, transport and storage and medical uses of radiation sources to the Ministry of Mines and Geology. RSRP met with a Senior Counselor, a Legal Manager and legal and technical staff at the Ministry of Justice, representative from the Ministry of Defense and the Director General and staff from the National Institute for Research in the Natural Sciences (IRSEN).
RSRP visited ANR during February 27-March 2, 2018 to discuss the status of the development of the regulatory body and to identify regulatory priorities that can be supported by the NRC/RSRP program. Plans for a country wide inventory were discussed in detail. The discussions covered outreach to the user community, preparation for and execution of the inventory project and development of the national registry.
In a continuing effort to support IAEA activities John Kinneman of AdSTM, Inc. participated as a member expert of an IAEA team performing an Advisory Mission related to the National Regulatory Infrastructure for Radiation Safety in the Republic of Mozambique during January 28 – February 2, 2018. The team was lead by an IAEA manager, included a second IAEA manager and a representative from the Spanish regulator.
From February 19 to February 23, 2018, a consultation under the RSRP was conducted at the Ministry of Health in Panama City, Panama. Rick Muñoz provided information and guidance to the Panamanian Regulatory Authority (RA) with the objective of strengthening their regulation of Licensing and Inspection of Medical Cyclotrons, Positron Emission (PET) Tomography and PET Nuclear Material Radiopharmaceutical Production and Distribution. The consultation was a component of the action plan for Panama that is included in the RSRP Master Plan for Latin American partners.
