RSRP Visits Dominican Republic

On February 19, the RSRP program visited Dominican Republic regulator (at CNE) to discuss new and ongoing RSRP activities and the establishment of the Radiation Protection Program at the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña (UNPHU). Participants discussed recently successfully completed country wide inventory project and the national registry of radiation sources. The program is planning to conduct a workshop on shielding design for the industrial facilities and to update the software for the national registry to the latest version of the software. Time permitting this software version will include all Spanish language user interface. Participants discussed consultative services regarding the establishment of the Emergency Center and the use of radiological equipment owned by CNE. RSRP visited UNPHU to discuss the details of the Radiation Protection Program. This is a continuing education program for college graduates with degrees in science and engineering that prepares students for a career as a radiation protection officer. Program duration will be 9 months. A few prospective 2018 starts dates were discussed. CNE agreed to host the 3rd RSRP Latin America regional meeting tentatively scheduled for August 2018 in Santo Domingo.

Juan Rodriguez Nina, Director of CNE, Luciano Sbriz (head of the regulatory authority at CNE), William Duke (Dean, Faculty of Medicine) and Pedro Lora (Director, Division of Continuing Education) of UNPHU, Sergey Katsenelenbogen and Mario Rodriguez of AdSTM participated in the meetings.
