On February 19, 2019, the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Radiation Sources Regulatory Partnership (RSRP) representatives visited the Dominican Republic to meet with Eng. Luis Morilla, the new Director of the Nuclear Division of the National Commission of Energy (CNE). They discussed the status of ongoing bilateral activities as well as important opportunities to develop collaborative projects to support the CNE’s regulatory work in the Caribbean island. Mr. Morilla highlighted the importance of having a complete inventory of radiation sources and generators to enhance regulatory oversight. The CNE and NRC plan to continue their cooperation to further build CNE’s capabilities in the areas of licensing and inspections, especially for new nuclear technologies. Susan Wittick from the NRC Office of International Programs, and Charles Miller and Mario Rodriguez from Advanced System Technology and Management, represented the RSRP team that participated in the meeting.
