Graduation Ceremony in Panama for Post-Graduate Course in Radiation Protection

August 26th, 2011 —  The 2010 - 2011 post graduate course graduated ten radiation protection officers. This Spanish language course was designed by the Ministry or Health of Panama with support from RSRP. In attendance were the graduates and family members, the course director Dr. Eloy Gibbs, course lecturers from the University of Panama, representatives of US NRC (Scott Moore) and Sergey Katsenelenbogen (AdSTM). All graduates obtained employment offers upon graduation in the radiation protection area. Allejandro Arroyo, top scoring graduate, was awarded a week-long trip to study at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami Florida. The course was designed to prepare individuals to become Radiation Protection Officers. The course program covers theoretical and practical knowledge in safety and security of radioactive materials. The course material consisted of 4 modules. The night courses were run 4-5 days per week between 5:30 – 9 pm during August, 2010 – May, 2011. This evening program allowed students to maintain employment while attending the course. The program was taught by Dr. Mora and Dr. Gibbs, and local university professors. Select topics were covered by foreign lecturers with support from IAEA and USNRC.
